Hello Linda and Sara, I just read the article in Women's Business Minnesota. I whole-heartedly agree with your conclusions. As a Human Resources professional I see the disparity between men and women regularly.
I have recently accepted a severance package and I am currently looking for work in HR. I have been offered two positions, however the salary for both offers were lower than my most recent salary for the same kind of work. I know my salary is in line based on market surveys. I tried to negotiate but they were not willing. One told me that they would go on to the next applicant since they knew they would accept their financial offer. I was disappointed because the work sounded really great.
Please give me some advise going forward. I enjoy my work and feel my financial expectations are reasonable. Do I need to make some consessions just to get the job in this tough market?
