As a women I have asked, and have still only gotten a pittance more than the initial offer, I hate to feel like because I am a women I have to jump through hoops to still get paid less when I know I should be getting paid more. And what if you need that job and you don't feel like you have much of a choice to say no, then I only feel resentment because I know I should be getting paid more but because I am a women and I could not afford to negotiate harder that I am to blame for being treated like I don't have value or enough self esteem to break the glass ceiling.

Has anyone heard of the equal pay act, ITS THE LAW, why should I have to haggle with someone when it is the law? We have laws to protect us for a reason. Has anyone stopped blaming women for not asking, we do and we still don't get what we should in many cases, but the laws that are supposed to protect us aren't being utilized.

When you don't feel the need to explain to someone laws they should already know as a manager/administator it just frustrates the situation more. She suggests asking others of their pay, but not everyone is forthcoming about what they are making. I can research out the wazoo but, the boss I work for now complained he could only afford to pay so much for the position while he talks to his friends about his vacation house and I'm living on $2 - 5 pound bags of rice.

There are times we take a job to get by but that doesn't mean we don't deserve to be treated with respect with regard to the laws about paying someone. People should stop blaming the temporarily overburdened for not trying hard enough. Some times women sacrifice because that is the choice you have at the time but we don't need to be told as a women we are not trying hard enough. I respect what she is trying to do to help but some times it isn't always that simple. And life isn't always fair no matter how we may try to resolve the issue.
