My friend sent me this link, and I am a bit frightened albeit relived at what I am reading. I am currently interviewing for a new job, and I am in the final rounds. The application form requested very detailed information about salary history, last raise, etc. and of course salary expectations. I have been very mobile in my career working in Canada, USA, and Europe, and my salary has made some dramatic jumps Gross, but not necessarily Net. I am completely stressed about the salary requirement. For personal reasons I would REALLY like this position, it is in an ideal location, with a great company. The term Salary Requirement is quite amusing, I would prefer Salary Desire, my requirement is about 20 000 less then my desire, and 30 000 less than what I think the position should earn. I am very afraid to ask for the “should earn” for fear that they will just put my resume on the back burner (I have in my current position acquired both international experience and management experience that gives me this ridiculous large scope for new salary). They seem very interested in my CV, but it is a new position and very very difficult to judge the amount based on salary survey’s etc. I will look for the book next week in England, but I don’t know if it will help me with the “how much am I worth” … “if I was a man??” question. I am very eagerly awaiting the chance to read more.
